July Programs

(L-R) Steffanie Wysack, Carla Meyer, Sharla Irby
For our first program of the year, we were blessed with a return of Carla Meyer, executive director of the Kleberg County Adult Literacy Council.  This year she was joined by Steffanie Wysack and Sharla Irby, who are serving as interns for the KCALC.

Last year's winning team

The topic of discussion was the upcoming Scrabble Tournament For Literacy.  Last year's inaugural tournament was such a success, that bigger venue was needed.  This year's tournament will be on August 3, at the Elk's Lodge (1404 S. 6th Street).  Registration begins at 6:00 and the tournament will end at 9:00.

For more information on the KCALC, go to their website (http://www.klebergcountyadultliteracy.com/), or contact them at

April 2012 Programs

Dr. Thomas Krueger - Professor and Director of Faculty Research at Texas A&M University-Kingsville College of Business Administration

Dr. Krueger holds a DBA in Finance from the University of Kentucky, and MBA from Minnesota State University and a BS from University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Prior to TAMUK, he taught at UNC-Charlotte (1986-1989) and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (1989-2010), where he was chair of the Finance Department (1993-1999).

The April 26 program was a presentation of Dr. Krueger's "Overview of the Coastal Bend Economy & Kleberg County".  This presentation was originally presented on March 6 at the Economic Forum & Luncheon at the Student Union Building on the TAMUK campus.  It was a very informative presentation with great insight to our local economy and how it compares to our neighbors, Jim Wells and Brooks counties.  We look forward to the second annual Luncheon next year.
